In 1733 the first regularly constituted Modern Masonic Lodge was established by Henry Price in Boston. The Brothers alligiance was to the King. In 1777 the Independence of Freemasonry in America was officially declared by the Modern and Ancient Masonic Lodges loyal to the "United States of America". King George the III of England, Mohawk Chief Joseph Brant, and major British Officers were Modern Lodge Freemasons. The Revolutionary War pitted Modern Freemasons (Tories or Loyalists) vs. Ancient and Modern Freemasons (Patriots). The Declaration of Independence had fifty six signers, nine were Freemasons and the remainder endorsed Masonic Principles. Twenty-eight of the 40 Signers of the Constitution were Freemasons.
