Origin of Games By Grube

In 1984 Karl and Kathryn decided to do a father-daughter tourism board game. Since both played cribbage well, crib was chosen as the gaming format of choice. A motorhome trip around Lake Superior and business stops to see first hand the making of playing cards, educational games, and wooden game boards at US Playing Card Co., Aristoplay, and Drueke Games raised the learning curve of this father-daughter team.

The wooden cribbage board with pegs and holes was replaced with a NASA satellite image of Lake Superior on a board game. The best tourism stops on the 1,300 mile Circle Tour were catalogued and printed on the satellite image gameboard. This father-daughter team then made up 100 gameboard sets in "boxes" and took off in their Mirage Motorhome for a promotional tour around the "big lake".

Most tourism operators play cribbage and liked being able to buy advertising on the board. An article in the Ann Arbor News by prominent education writer, Constance Crump, triggered a school demand. Today, Lake Superior Cribbage, 3rd Edition features all game content online. Games By Grube and its division, Gamesbygrube.com, work exclusively with grades 4, 5, 6, 7 in promoting The Grube Method of Instruction .
